TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State beach volleyball team opened its 2018 slate falling, 3-2, in a highly-contested duel with No. 1 Southern California,Â
Friday night at the PERA Club.Â
Making their respective collegiate debuts, freshmen
Samantha Plaster and
Kate Baldwin, gave the Sand Devils their first point of the 2018 season. Slotted into the lineup as the Maroon & Gold's No. 5 pair the freshmen duo defeated USC's Peri Green and Alexandra Poletto in straight sets, 21-19, 21-18.Â
Rising sophomores
Ellyson Lundberg and
Katelyn Carballo, captured Arizona State's second point of the outing defeating the Trojan's No. 3 pair of Briana Sizemore and Joy Dennis in three sets, 21-14, 16-21 and 15-11.Â
Southern California managed victories at the No.1, No. 2 and No. 4 pairs to narrowly capture the victory.Â
Up next, Arizona State continues play in the Sun Devil Challenge, hosting Nebraska atÂ
11 a.m. PT before capping the weekend against No. 14 Cal Poly atÂ
3 p.m. PT.
