CLERMONT, Fla. – The reigning USA Triathlon Collegiate National Champion Sun Devils competed this weekend at two different races as part of the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge.
Â
"We had a very strong showing from the team this weekend," said head coach
Cliff English. "It was a very motivating start for the team and we're looking forward to continuing this momentum into a good training block."
Â
A significant part of the weekend was allowing the Sun Devils to accumulate early season ITU (International Triathlon Union) world ranking classification points for national team criteria and team selection.
Â
In Saturday's CAMTRI Elite Women's Continental Cup race, all five Sun Devils (top 20) earned points for ITU world rankings –
Charlotte Ahrens (8th),
Kyla Roy (12th),
Katie Gorczyca (16th),
Rebecca Naughton (18th), and
Sarah Quintero (19th).
Â
On Sunday, in the U25 Elite Development Race, ASU once again had a top-10 finisher in
Darby Middlebrook (8th), followed by Cat Giuseffi (16th),
Delaney Bucker (30th),
Kendal Williams (34th), and
Lillie Robinson (35th). Williams and Robinson sprinted to a close finish.
Â
The Sun Devils continue training and will release their 2018 fall schedule later this spring/summer while several will compete for their countries this summer in ITU competitions.
